These past few weeks have been difficult for everyone in many ways, to say the least.
In the midst of all this it’s easy to get overwhelmed & ignore the body’s need for movement. The official CDC recommendation for most adults is 150 minutes of exercise per week.
So during quarantine isolation let’s not forget about muscle isolation! 🙂
I’m still working on adjusting my exercise routines. But in the hopes maybe they’ll help you too, here are the top 4 FREE at home workout resources I’ve been incorporating into my routine the past couple of weeks:
1. Pure Barre GO
Barre classes are actually a relatively new thing for me! While my favorite barre studio is temporarily closed, I’ve been enjoying the free classes that Pure Barre has been posting on their Facebook. When my body is craving some focused muscle exercises these hit the spot (literally – after some classes I’m sore for multiple days)!
2. Corepower Yoga
As part of my “usual” routine, I typically attend a Corepower Sculpt class (heat + weights) about once per week. I find it helps keep me flexible & gives me a great workout at the same time. (& I’ll readily admit there’s plenty of times when you can find me in Child’s Pose mid-class – those classes can be tough, y’all!) They’re currently posting free classes on their website, including everything from yoga flows to sculpt routines.
3. Peloton
You’ve probably heard me mention this, but cycling is NOT my strong suit. I’m working on improving both my physical & emotional relationship with biking haha. The point is: with Peloton, even I love cycling! & if you don’t have a Peloton bike, the Peloton app offers a variety of classes, now with a 90 day free trial. Most recently they’ve released new dance cardio classes, some featuring one of my favorite instructors, Cody Rigsby. This week it’s been a great start to my day to get my heart rate up & feel silly trying to keep up with their various dance moves.
4. Spending time outdoors
Last but not least…get outside in nature! One of my personal goals during this isolation period is to get outside at least once per day (while still respecting social distancing, of course), to get both mental & physical benefits. I don’t always feel like running & Chicago weather may not be the greatest lately, but there hasn’t been a single time when I’ve regretted stepping outside for even a short walk. It’s always just what I need to take in the birds singing, flowers blooming & other signs of Spring!
All of the above are even better when done with a workout buddy over video chat (physical distancing doesn’t have to mean social distancing)!
It’s a strange & difficult time for everyone, let’s all remember to be kind to others and ourselves, & treat our bodies well but also rest when we feel we need to.
